INITIAL PHOTOGRAPHS - PORTRAITS

Contact sheet of all the preliminary images which I decided to remove from the lineup.
Most images removed at this stage were due to blinking, laughing, repeats and the more experimental positions that just didn't work. Also decided that the last outfit wasn't conveying the idea of grandeur or simplicity that I thought it might have done.

These images made it into the file 'Good'. These are largely better constructed images but again small details like positioning of arms, eyes and hair weren't good enough to continue. Cropping was also a factor that held some of these images back.

From the selection of 'Great' images. With all my images fairly narrowed down much of the choices made at this stage were due to some being very similar and being able to really nit pick which ones were the best. With a smaller array of photos I was also able to reflect on whether they were really portraying ideas of excess or hints of religious/renaissance imagery. In image 52 the red of the gloves showed up very brightly which is preferable to the colouring in the one I chose to put forward instead but the positioning outweighed the colour. The side profile in 08 gives a victorian essence to it which although grand isn't along the renaissance line I was going for. 72 was strong and positioning was perfect, especially in my difficult to work with hair, but unfortunately I think it loses some power being landscape. In 62 the tattoo of Manet's Olympia really uplifted the vibe but the way it curves around my shoulder blade is a bit distracting, the fact that another tattoo is only partially included also ruins the clean lines. 69 is by far the strongest image so far displaying something quite opulent. But alas unfortunately it's not conveying anything religious and is more elegant than ostentatious.

Some of my top picks from this group were:
