LOCATIONS - DOCUMENTARY
Although Purple Turtle was our main location idea, we knew it would be loud and some shots and audio clips would need to be somewhere much quieter and calmer. Oakford Social Club is another important venue for the community and is pretty empty most of the time. There are several backdrops within the venue that would be appealing to film in front of including the stage, the mural and the isolated table upstairs where I've held many interviews before. This would be an ideal place to catch members of the community before shows or just having a quiet one for a catch up when everyone's not busy touring. Because this venue is drastically quieter, bringing our own lights wouldn't be an issue either.
Purp Turt:
This venue is so expansive and has multiple areas to film in. Every square inch of this place is perfect. The majority of the massive smoking area is undercover so whilst the floor may be wet, the equipment, and our subjects, wouldn't get rained on. Our two main problems with this location is the fact that it is so packed out which means noise levels will be hard to work with for anything but the gig itself and safety of the kit is a concern as there is no where for us to safely leave it other than the corner of the mall stage. The second min concern is the time constraints leave us a bit lost as there may not be anyone relevant playing on the days we've got to shoot. Asking about permission, they seemed keen to let us start filming straight away which was expected as this is such a creative hub - gigs are often filmed and there can be many photographers down the front and on the stage at any one time. Knowing the venue so well and being so involved in this community gives us easy access to people who realistically love being filmed and talking about themselves, also we know that several of our friends have been interviewed in the venue in the day time as early as 7am - so filming outside of opening hours wouldn't be completely off the cards. The final quip we have with the location is whether the rest of the group want to travel to Reading throughout the shoot week.
