WHERE NEXT - PORTRAITS

With no stress from deadlines, I have more time to reflect on what I really learnt about my practice from the initial Portraits project. Perhaps due to the lack of self directed work during the break between FE and BA, I erupted with ideas. It's now quite apparent that I had too many expectations of what I was going to conclude in the short and hectic time frame.

Partially due to responses, or lack thereof, from locations, there is definitely room for further exploration of imagery stemmed from Catholicism - and following on from that, British eccentrics are definitely not fully exhausted. Creating a narrative seems like a natural progression for a photographical series and links easily with religious ideas, and following Bowie's birthday I'm reminded of how he recreated his personas forcing us to question reality and how past projects of mine centring on him fizzled out. Along the lines of creating a character, The Moonlandingz and Johnny Rocket could be another avenue for inspiration as they are a 'fictional' band. Having interviewed Adrian Flanagan, the founder & co-writer creator of The Moonlandingz, back in September, I think my connections to them are now stronger than to Bowie and having an open dialogue with Adrian could feed into the project quite dramatically if needed. I also have easy access to photographers who have worked with them too, they could become useful contacts also.

I aim to construct a larger than life character
that commands deity entitlement.

  • But surely once a fake persona is constructed, it is then manifested in some kind of metaphysical state?
  • How can it be fake if you make it?
  • What is fame? Has long been a question I've been meaning to find an answer to.
