SHOOT: THE CREATION OF TAKE 1 - PORTRAITS

THE MIDDLE IMAGE: THE BIRTH OF X

"When a link is established between the work and it's beholder,
the latter experiences a sublime purging trauma."
- Tarkovsky

An exchange is given. The majority of viewers will have preconceived thoughts on Christianity, and my series will allow those that relate to expel some of their negative energy towards it.

Originally I wanted this shoot to focus on the 'The Creation Of' image, but I failed to realise that equipment hire was closed during my allocated studio time thus leaving me with no camera. So all was not lost, I went ahead anyway and used a phone. This obviously had it's drawbacks particularly the fact that the image wouldn't take as I pressed the button so the model would move and I'd get a blurry picture. I ended up trying the model in different positions and seeing how the lighting portrayed into the images, this also meant that the model could start getting an idea of what I was trying to achieve - this could take a while.

I had suspected that the model would just wear black trousers but with the black background they faded away. I am considering using red gels to counteract this so the light points on the model pick up the colour.

I definitely lost my way with the plan for the content of the photos so on reflection the best scenes to create moving forward would be a back shot of X preaching to a crowd, the birth or creation of and the taking of the forbidden fruit.

PREACHING TO CROWD:

position too short but portrait? good shadows on neck, face too model-y, needs to be speaking

THE BIRTH OF VENUS:
curve of shadows on dark front side of face

pose perfect, body lit well, face needs another light, too flat, good angle from below, could work on hands

hand works better, harsher lighting on face good, softer lighting on body good

hands much better, lighting too soft

good light in eye, good shadows on face, bad angle from me in relation to model, light needs to be much further left for straight on photos

too pretty, too soft, good face position, wrong body angle

over exposed, wrong angle, good pose
struggled to get the model to stop posing - will have to shoot from behind
Don't need to be so dramatically lower than him

Nice high light point

Forbidden Fruit:

Shadow could be altered evil - legs are irrelevant - shoot waist up

Nice but I want to see face and much closer up

Angular arms are more dramatic

need him to stand in front of something that can be a halo
