CONCLUSION
At the start of the project Ance, Anike and I worked together and had several meetings to discuss all the aspects of the design of the film which we then reported back to the rest of the team in whole group discussions in the library. This allowed us to give the general idea to the group so everyone had some idea of what we were planning whilst the three of us worried about the details and how to action our ideas.
The conversations we had in both Art meetings and Team meetings made it apparent that costume and makeup did not need to be a focal point of the film and the more nondescript the better. This lead me to researching the 'normcore' movement which was largely inspired by 80s and 90s casual wear. I looked at a few TV shows and Films which would fit the normcore aesthetic and presented this to the whole group very early on in the project and obtained positive feedback. Another aspect that was important to decide upon was colour scheme as this would affect both costume and set design. I came to the conclusion that Manet's Olympia would be a good reference point for colours as although it's subject matter is unrelated, the colours seemed transferable into the bleak and dismal tone of the narrative discussed in group meetings.
Based on our research so far Ance, Anike and I went scouting for props and costumes. Based on the limitations of the budget as well as the dated things we wished to accumulate, we ventured to the charity shops as well as a backlog of many crates full of clothes I had agglomerated at my mothers house with the intention of selling. I noted the general prices of the items in the charity shops in order to discuss budget plans.
Then I fell ill and my contributions to the project drastically decreased.
I came back a few days prior to the shoot with the costumes we had previously discussed but as I had been away it was clear that the plans had somewhat changed and some parts of of the costume were no longer needed.
When it came to the shooting days I had little to do on set bar slightly rearrange clothes and instead used the time to take charge of the 'filming in progress' light which I was mostly capable of doing whilst still ill although I did struggle with the long hours as I'd been basically bed bound for the month prior. Without a main role on set I was able to help with the small odd jobs that came up whilst filming like turning set lighting on and off when needed for the shot.
Overall, I think I fulfilled my role at the start of the project and tried to help out as much as I could on set although somewhere in the middle of that I did become quite distant from the project.
