COMPARING CAMERAS

Sony FS7 Mark 2 - Needs team for up to six boxes of kit, only one but only Y2&3 access, slo mo, 10bit HD ProRes 4:2:2, documentary, bad for skin tones, just with a prime lens can go on glide cam, 3 crew minimum, good for low light

Canon XF305 - Old but good, only needs one camera operator and one sound on boom, 3 crew minimum

Black Magic Ursa - Good for taking out on locations but can't see live screen, half way between studio and documentary camera, good for green screen, 4:4:4, slo mo, awful auto focus, 3 crew minimum
^ Mini -

Canon 5D - Good for taking abroad

C300 w zoom lens - de-rig for documentary, very small, only 8bit colour space but could add kit to improve that, best autofocus, lots available, slo mo, documentary, good for skin tones, 2 crew basic, good for low light, low frame rate, pretty sensitive to green

Lumix GH4 + Atomos Ninja Blade or Samurai Blade - Discrete, good for blending in with tourists, 2 crew

COLOUR SPACE:

Contrast is more important than colour

C-Log/S-Log, for colour grading (Canon or Sony) can be undone, enables high contrast in post, must be graded which takes time

Fixed shutter speed, fixed ISO, Controlloed through lighting for shadow and highlight, controlled through aperture for Depth of Field and colour control , everything else is a tool to support the storytelling. keep it in it\s place - robust setup, then move on to framing, lighting audio and.....

Decide on camera this term

Consider cameras

For tests, shoot same thing twice on two cameras and compare the results

Bigger the camera the smoother the movement on glides etc
