ROSIE GIBBENS BLACK BOX TALK

As part of the Black Box team and the fact I've been feeling slightly more capable of leaving the house I actually managed to attend one of the guest lectures from the artists we selected to exhibit in the project space. Rosie Gibbens is a performance artist that deals with typically feminist content without actually making feminist or antifeminist points. I forgot my notebook so I also forgot a lot of the details but managed to find my favourite of her works online.

"there is no true self or authentic version especially if you know someone is watching"

I love how basic this. A very simple action, repeated, slowly.
In the Q&A after the lecture someone questioned the recurring shoes and Gibbens elaborated on the idea of a uniform giving you a kind of alter ego. If you wear something you don't normally wear, you automatically feel different.
I enjoyed how this work took mediated content and completely stripped it of meaning, if there even was meaning to begin with. The screens accompanied Gibbens collecting her own sweat and bottling it for viewers to take home.

Another very simple action repeated but I really took an interest in the cause and affect, the relationship between the action and the result which was clearly visible due to the vibrant eyeshadow she picked.
