PAIN-TING FAILINGS
Some of the paints I ordered arrived this morning which is great because I'm starting to burn out. The canvas boards I ordered haven't arrived yet so I was going to use the big roll of never ending paper that Dylan gave me but turns out I already gave it back to him so all I have is a big stack of newsprint which is great for mono prints but not so great for all of the paint I've covered them in. I started with the black backgrounds and struggled with the curling edges. Newsprint is obviously not the best choice for this but it is all I have available and it is lightweight and obviously very minimal. I decided that this painting session would be based on images from Noah's Ark seeing as I can't continue to work on the project in any other way. If they were to be displayed as a triptych (god knows I love a triptych) I wanted them to make sense so I flipped one and made the faces face each other. These will just be the basis of the paintings and I'm not intending for them to look like accurate representations just nods to the originals based on light and movement. I'll be adjusting the colour scheme also. I'll finish the paintings with another hand video, although my housemate is actually awake today so crossing paths may interfere with the filming.
This was the end result of the first painting and I lost motivation after that. The paper choice is obviously wrong and stopped me from using thick layers of paint that I could 'sculpt', but also I used too many colours and should have done an extreme close up because this is still too recognisable. Going to keep a list of all the things I've had to do wrong due to isolation. Also now need to find a use for my two other large black sheets of newsprint - maybe for studies before I use the canvas boards?
