PROCRASTINATION PANDEMIC EDITION: PROJECT PROPOSAL FOR THE POSH SCHOOL

Wild Child (2008) - Kent Film Office

Kathleen sent me an artist residency that's going in September and tbh I'd do anything to live in that building and it's the set from Wild Child?! aka greatest film ever. So I had a phat brainstorm of where I wanted my practice to go and then perfectly timed, my copy of How To Show Your Work by creativehub arrived. I read it whilst on my 25mile stationary bike rides in my room that I'm doing as preparation for the big walks. Was helpful to be in the right mindset and practicing my current plans. After a lot of questionable ideas my plan for the proposal is:

A weekly performance of adapted ritual purifications that will be photographed to result in a photobook. The final exhibition will have the photobook, some large scale prints and the final filmed performance where I partially engage in all previous rituals in quick succession.
The work will comment on religious, capitalist and feminist topics with cleanses utilising wine, make-up removers and the latest 'detox' foods. The weekly performances will enable me to have enough time to research the rituals and work out the practicalities of pouring said cleanser onto myself or other method of engaging with the purifier. I made a list of about 30 different cleanses that immediately came to mind.

Why I'd specifically want to do this project at the school is because they pride themselves on diversity and I think it would be beneficial for me to discuss with the students what their cultures and religions suggest as purifications.
